Texas Longhorns Debut Dominating Defense

charlie strongTexas Longhorns Head Coach Charlie Strong came to Austin with the promise bringing the Longhorn football program back to prominence. After a dominating 38-7  win over North Texas it is apparent he will do it with defense.

The offseason was filled with get-tough disciplinary messages for the players, ranging from suspensions and outright dismissals to smaller things like making players walk to practice instead of riding a bus and making them wear matching blazers and ties to the game.

Early results are in:

Texas allowed only 94 yards of total offense on 60 plays. That’s 1.57 yards per snap.

North Texas quarterbacks completed 3-of-17 attempts for 15 yards with no touchdowns, four interceptions and a pick six. That’s a quarterback rating of minus-21.9.

Texas forced more punts (nine) than it allowed first downs (eight).

Strong in post game comments was somewhat reserved in his praise for his team.

“We didn’t hold anything back – we’re not that good,” Strong said. “There’s nothing stored away. You saw what we’re going to do.” “Our defense went out and just dominated,” Strong said. “You saw the intensity. You saw it all day.”

Thats a pretty good start Charlie.
