Alabama Host Florida Atlantic in Week 2

nick sabanAfter squeaking by the West Virginia Mountaineers last week  the Alabama Crimson Tide opens their home schedule against the Florida Atlantic Owls Saturday, September 6, at the Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa, AL..

Blake Sims will likely get the majority of the playing time at quarterback but as we learned last week Simms still has some room to improve.

Sims passed for 250 yards completing 24 of 33 passes with an interception, but failed to throw a touchdown pass. Sims added 42 yards on the ground on six carries. His favorite targets were junior Amari Cooper who caught 12 passes for 130 yards while DeAndrew White caught six passes for 73 yards.

This week facing Florida Atlantic should provide more than enough opportunities for Sims and the Crimson Tide to pad their stats. For the Atlantic was thumped 55-7 by the Nebraska Cornhuskers last week.

Clearly the Owls are not in the same class as Alabama, giving up 784 yards defensively to the Cornhuskers 498 of which came on the ground.

Look for Alabama to score early and to score often. T.J. Yeldon who ran for 23 carries for 126 yards and two scores and Derrick Henry who added 113 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries, should easily be able to duplicate those numbers and more against an inferior Florida Atlantic team.

For Florida Atlantic it’s two weeks in a row against a national powerhouse but represents a good payday for the program.
