BILBAO, SPAIN — Not that Finland ever had a chance but Team USA cruised to a 59 point victory over the Fins 114-55 in the first game of World Cup basketball action. Next up for the USA is Turkey on Sunday (ESPN 3:30 pm). That’s a rematch of the 2010 World Championship finals, but Turkey is a shell of that former team.
Team USA went on a 29-2 run in the second quarter and that was that.
Team USA shot 58.9 percent for the game, compared to 27.7 percent for Finland, which could not deal with the American’s defensive pressure.
Klay Thompson scored 18 points and Anthony Davis had 17 to lead the USA. Every USA player got double-digit minutes and scored. DeMarcus Cousins came off the bench to grab 10 rebound.
Team USA is working hard according to it players.
“We prepared the last couple of weeks for this moment and every single moment that we play in,” James Harden said. “Practices are the same way. We go hard and when it’s time to go out there we take care of business. We don’t go out there to pace ourselves. We go out there with intensity from the beginning of the game.”
Time will tell vey soon if it was hard enough . The games should be more difficult from this point forward
