Oakland A’s Acquire Adam Dunn from White Sox

adan dunnThe Oakland Athletics acquired slugger Adam Dunn from the Chicago White Sox for minor league pitcher Nolan Sanburn and unspecified cash considerations. Oakland will take one approximately half of his the remaining $2.5 million owed to Dunn this season

The 34-year-old Dunn, who has 460 career home runs, is in the last year of a four-year, $56 million deal. He is batting .220 with 20 homers, 54 RBIs and a .340 on-base percentage this season.

Oakland has led the league in runs scored but rank only 20th in runs in August, following the trade of Yoenis Cespedes for Jon Lester on July 31. The Los Angeles Dodgers were reportedly interested in Dun as well.

Earlier Saturday, the Sox traded outfielder Alejandro De Aza to the Baltimore Orioles for prospects.

“It is a priority for us to continue to build upon the progress we’ve made the last few years with our system, both internationally and through the draft,” Sox GM Rick Hahn said. “Another way of doing that is via trade.

“The deadline is 11 (p.m. Sunday), so we are going to keep working and exploring some opportunities.”

The A’s find themselves four games behind the Los Angeles Angels in the American League West with a month to go on the regular season.
